WOB - Bubbling fluidised-bed facility

The WOB of ECN is a flexible lab-scale atmospheric bubbling fluidised bed facility used for research on combustion, gasification and pyrolysis.  Air, oxygen, argon, nitrogen and steam can be used as fluidising medium or oxidant.

Typical experiments in the WOB

  • Determination of agglomeration risk for fuels under realistic process conditions based on a standard test
  • Characterisation of fuel conversion behaviour 
  • Fuel gas generation for further research on downstream processes

  • Inside diameter: 74 mm
  • Temperature: up to 900 oC 
  • Max. fuel feeding: ~ 1 kg/hr
  • Fuel capacity: 5 kWth
