NoE Annual Researchers Meeting Drives Progress, 21/09/05
01/09/2005
For two days in September over 60 researchers from all eight partner institutes met at ECN, Petten to review the first 18 months as Bioenergy NoE.
Future progress relies on joint research & researcher mobility
The workshop kicked off with presentations from each of the Work Package Leaders. Each Work Package presented the top three joint research ideas to help overcome key barriers in their area. Joint research is intended to drive integration among NoE research institutes. The Researchers' Meeting concluded that integration can be achieved practically from the bottom-up through joint research projects, researcher exchanges and workshops. In a recent survey 89% of NoE researchers felt that the NoE encourages them to cooperate more, signalling that these practical steps are working.
A poster session and a tour of ECN Biomass helped to communicate the research that happens everyday in each partner institute and to create opportunities for joint work.
Kees Kwant of Senternovem introduced the new ERA-NET Bioenergy project. A lively discussion on co-operation strategies between ERA-NET and the NoE followed based on the networks common aim to move bioenergy research from a national to a European approach.
