Engine and vehicle lab

VTT has an engine and vehicle laboratory for alternative motor fuels emission and usability research.  

Facilities

  • Chassis dynamometers for heavy and light duty vehicles
  • Six engine dynamometers including one transient dynamometer
  • Full flow dilution tunnel

Measurements

  • Regulated gaseous emissions plus particulates
  • Non-regulated emissions
  • Speciated hydrocarbons (GC), aldehydes, alcohols, multicomponent on-line FTIR analysis
  • Composition and quality of particulate matter (SOF, PAH, IOF, AMES)
  • Mass size classification and continuous number size classification of particles  
  • Fuel consumption
