OLGA lab & bench scale tar removal unit

ECN's OLGA is a gas cleaning unit for removal of tars from product gas produced by biomass gasification.  The OLGA technology is an advanced scrubbing technology that is developed and patented by ECN.  In the OLGA the product gas is cooled, upon which the liquid tars are collected.  Additionally, gaseous tars are absorbed in the scrubbing liquid at the resulting temperature.

In the design of the OLGA the liquid tar collection and the gaseous tar absorption are performed in two separate scrubbing columns, i.e. the collector and the absorber. For combined dust and tar removal a wet electro-static precipitator is installed downstream the collector

  • The lab scale facility is designed for 2 mn3/h of product gas (only tar removal).
  • The pilot scale facility is designed for 180 mn3/h product gas (tar and dust removal).
