KLEAA batch grate system (fixed bed)

The test facility is used in R&D and industrial projects including

  • Characterisation of pyrolysis, gasification and combustion behaviour of the feedstock depending on certain influencing parameters (e.g. feed stock composition, primary air, enriched with O2 or N2, etc.) on the pilot scale
  • Results are used to build up a biofuel register and to develop tools to standardise the pyrolysis, gasification and combustion characteristics
  • Species-formation (e.g. NOx) could be studied in detail

Feedstocks used in this facility, among others

  • Biofuels (wood chips, wood pellets, rape...)
  • Fossil fuels (hard and brown coal)
  • Wastes, RDF

Technical information

  • Inside diameter: 0.23 m
  • Reactor height:  0.3 m
  • Temperature:  up to 1000 ?C ~
  • Load: up to 5 kg, depending on the calorific value and the bulk density
  • Pressure: 1 bar (abs)
  • Thermal capacity:   25 kW
  • Video-controlled, weighing system
  • Gas cleaning: post combustion chamber, heat exchanger, bag filter, activated carbon filter
