Aston University is a modern, technical university in the heart of Birmingham, UK with a focus on engineering, applied sciences and business. The Bioenergy Research Group (BERG) is based in the Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry in the School of Engineering and Applied Science. Over the last 20 years BERG has earned a solid reputation for innovation and excellence in all aspects of thermal biomass conversion.
Aston University and the Bioenergy NoE
Aston University brings expertise in biomass fast pyrolysis, gasification and bioenergy system design and assessment to the NoE. BERG's strong history as a coordinator and communicator for major European bioenergy RTD projects positions Tony Bridgwater to lead the NoE's Spreading of Excellence Activities. BERG has coordinated 11 substantial EC sponsored RTD projects and is managing SUPERGEN, a UK University Consortium in thermal biomass conversion, PyNe, a biomass pyrolysis network, and ThermalNet, a new European network for biomass pyrolysis, gasification and combustion.
